The perpetual goal of this project is to build a Genetic Census of Grau and surname variations of Grau. With this Genetic Census, existing members and new members can compare their yDNA against the Genetic Census to determine if they have a genetic cousin. These genetic cousins will be grouped into family groups to help identify families of common lineage. It will take time to build this Genetic Census so members must be patient and above all try and recruit new participants. The larger the Genetic Census is, the better the chance of finding a genetic cousin.

The GRAU DNA Project's simple goals.

1. To encourage male GRAUs from around the world to join the project, yDNA test and build a Genetic Census of male GRAU yDNA  for genealogical research.

2. Through analysis of the members' tested yDNA, identify the common male ancestors of various GRAU families, which includes the variant spellings of the GRAU name.

3. Help researchers connect with genetic cousins that have been proven related by yDNA testing.

4. Help advance the research of those proven related by yDNA testing with a final goal of indentifying their common shared ancestor.
