The perpetual goal of this project is to build a Genetic Census of Grau and surname variations of Grau. With this Genetic Census, existing members and new members can compare their Y-DNA against the Genetic Census to determine if they have a genetic cousin. These genetic cousins will be grouped into family groups to help identify families of a common lineage. It will take time to build this Genetic Census, so members must be patient and try to recruit new participants. The larger the Genetic Census is, the better the chance of finding a genetic cousin.

The GRAU DNA Project's goals

  1. To encourage male GRAUs worldwide to join the project, Y-DNA test and build a Genetic Census of male GRAU Y-DNA for genealogical research.
  2. Through analysis of the members' tested Y-DNA, identify the common male ancestors of various GRAU families, which includes the variant spellings of the GRAU name.
  3. Help researchers connect with genetic cousins that have been proven related by Y-DNA testing.
  4. Help advance the research of those proven related by Y-DNA testing with a final goal of identifying their common shared ancestor.
